I’m very pleased to share that I am one of eight artists who have been shortlisted for the 2025 edition of the North East Emerging Artist Award.

Every year artist from all over the region answer an open call to be considered for the prize, which is ran by the National Trust in conjunction with curator Matthew Jarratt.

The prize will see the shortlisted artists create design proposals to be displayed at Seaton Delaval Hall between May and July this year, where members of the public will be able to vate for their favourites. A judging panel will then choose three of the shortlisted artsists to be chosen to be crowned winners, and realise their proposals.

For me, this really is a dream come true. I get to spend the next few months researching the jaw-dropping baroque architecture of Vanbrugh’s Hall, the madcap Deleval family and the surrounding area of Seaton Sluice and its history. Architecture is a huge part of my work, so being able to spend time in Seaton Deleval Hall and propose an artwork to be displayed within it is frankly a pinch-myself scenario. Being chosen to be one of the three winners would be amazing, but honestly - I’m more than happy to be shortlisted. Little old me.

I’ve stocked up on books, have half a million bookmarks and have a few research trips up to Northumberland planned for the coming weeks. I’m giddy.

I’m planning on documenting the process and sharing some updates here, so stay tuned.

The proposals will be displayed in the (very grand) stables of Seaton Delaval Hall from Wednesday 14 May to Sunday 22 July.
